Dairy Cattle (120)
An excellent entry of Autumn and Spring calved cows and heifers from the Strumble Herd of John and Gaynor Harries met a ringside of impressed buyers which brought a very good trade matching the quality of dairy cattle on show.
An overall average of £1865 for the cows and heifers was achieved with top price of £3200 and as much as 32 lots that sold for £2000 and over. Top price of the day was April calved Strumble Jackson Panda 143 VG87. By Weeton Jackson and out of 4 generations of VG dams emanating from the 85448kg in 11 lactation daughter of Hanoverhill Piper EX, Strumble Panda 5 VG85 who contributed greatly to the Panda family and was represented well in the sale. She went to the Brynhyfryd Herd in Haverfordwest for £3200.
A second animal to cross three thousand pounds, also a Panda, calved in March, Strumble Artist Panda 165 VG86 by Ridgefield Artist and out of two Ex91 dams bred again from Strumble Panda 5 VG85. For £3050 she joined the Emeraldgrove herd of JA Jones, Abercych. John Jones also purchased Strumble Lheros Panda 176 GP84 for £2600, Strumble Master Lady Ex90 for £2400, strumble Outside Lady 27 VG85 for £2300 and a further 10 cows that averaged over £2000. Next in the top prices of the day were Strumble Kendall Donna 21 VG88 and Strumble James Blodwen 138 VG85. Donna 21 had calved early April and gave 37.8kg of milk daily. She sold for £2800 and her heifer calf by Pen-England Garrison followed her into the ring making £720. The Shoremar James cow, Blodwen 138 VG85, also an April calver giving 44kg was out of 6 generations of cows that had milked for 51 lactations between them. She sold for £2750 and went with Donna 21 to join a top herd of cows at Mr Thomas's, Plas Farm.
Heifer calves were in great demand and averaged £564 with top price £860 for Strumble Gryndol Panda 223. By the home bull Stilbrook Gryndol and out of £3050 Strumble Artist Panda 165 VG86 above.
