Another fast trade to an entry of mixed quality. Top price was for Caer Shottle Mair 50, a first calf heifer out of Caer Mair 40 EX90. She was sold by Caerlleon Farms Ltd for £2520. The recorded heifers saw the best of the trade with a further four animals crossing the 2000 pounds mark. A market double from the Gest herd saw Gest Butterfly 215 and Gest Flora 230 sell for £2280 and £2120 respectively. Averages were affected by weak or three quartered animals but the top prices below show a continued healthy trade for good quality heifers.

Calf Breed Report (322)

Average: Bull Calves £173 / Heifer Calves £166/Friesian Bulls £40

After the snow break followed by the mad rush to clear the backlog the calf entries steadied but the trade remained strong. Top bull price was for a Charolais Bull calf at £340 with the Limousin breed topping the beef heifer calves at £292. The best Friesian bulls are still well worth while putting time and effort into at a top of £120 with breeding Friesian heifer calves peaking at £280.
