Useful Information and Latest News from BJP Marts

Glastir is the new Agricultural Environmental Scheme to be introduced on 2012
The new £90 million agri-environment scheme to be implemented in Wales will come into effect in January 2012. The initial change over is starting this year through the SAF (Single Application Form) with farmers asked to tick the box to express an interest in the new schemes and showing which fields you would be interested in receiving the payments on. This will not be a binding contract for inclusion into Glastir however interest at this point may be advantageous when coming to consider a five year commitment in 2012 or for transitional payments from other schemes currently in operation. Store cattle over £900, Lambs up on the previous week and cull cows hold fast - less stock were entered but the trade was good in all classes. Food Chain Information now required for calves - it is now necessary to sign the back of our NEW entry forms declaring calves that may go for slaughter (mainly Friesian Bulls) to be free from any medicines and visual signs of disease. As is done with all classes of fatstock the same is now needed for calves so that they can safely enter the food chain. If you have any questions please call the mart on 01267 236268 or Huw on 07976 328177.

Store cattle still booming at Carmarthen - a fine display of store cattle saw steers reach a top of £900 and heifers £830. Cull cows keep selling to a fast trade with tested cows averaging 110ppk and why there aren't more fat cattle in the live ring with animals going over 150ppk is beyond reason. lambs drop from the previous week but not a complete disaster still at 171ppk. Dairy cows demand holds strong -
Numbers were up and buyers were out in force as demand for milkers continues to sore. Food Chain Information - Legislation comes into force on 1st January 2010 requiring slaughterhouse operators to 'request, receive, check and act upon' food chain information for all cattle, sheep and goats sent for slaughter for human consumtion. This is a very important piece of information and if you sell any Barren Cows, Fat Cattle, Fat Lambs or Cull Ewes and Rams you should click here to find out more.
