TB in Cattle

MEASURES TO CONTROL BOVINE TB, BALANCE WILDLIFE AND CATTLE MANAGEMENT

All cattle over 42 days old moving out of a 1- or 2- yearly tested herd must have tested negative to a TB test within 60 days prior to movement unless the herd or movement meets any of the exemptions. All pre-movement tests must be arranged and paid for by the herd owner. However, routine surveillance tests, paid for by the government will count as pre-movement tests for 60 days for animals for animals included in that test, which have tested negative. These regulations are set out in the TB (Wales) Order 2006. Click on the link below to view the order.

TB (Wales) Order 2006.

Parish Testing

Each year the SVS advises herd owners of their new parish testing interval, which has been established by monitoring the level of TB in their area in the last 6 years.

Parish and herd testing intervals are the criteria by which herd owners are either eligible for or exempt from the new requirements for the pre- and post-movement testing of cattle.

The 2006 Parish Testing Review has been completed.
